Biography
On December 30, 1965 The Legendary MERLE HAGGARD added one more fan to his roster, while GLENN and ANN OLIVER were celebrating the birth of their new son STEVE in the LAWRENCE COUNTY MEDICAL CENTER in MOULTON, ALABAMA.
In addition to "THE HAG," STEVE OLIVER'S deep rooted love of COUNTRY MUSIC came from his father GLENN and traveling with him to concerts where he entertained with vocals and guitar while STEVE often watched from inside his father's GUITAR CASE.
Steve Oliver has been singing and writing COUNTRY MUSIC since he was six years old, winning his first talent contest the first year.
As soon as he was big enough to hold and reach the neck, STEVE learned the GUITAR often entertaining himself while taking a break from the arduous chores of an ALABAMA COTTON FIELD.
Yes, STEVE OLIVER picked cotton as a young man, adding another dimension to his personality, while helping to develop his humility and thoughtfullness. You are sure to find STEVE a DOWN TO EARTH person which can be heard in his music!
STEVE'S abilities continued to grow and expand and in 1994 came to the attention of RCA RECORD COMPANY EXECUTIVES and STEVE was ultimately signed as a STAFF WRITER. Two year later, STEVE signed as a STAFF WRITER with MCA RECORDS where STEVE penned such classics as "THERE IS A GOD AFTER ALL" for The Legendary TRACY LAWRENCE as well as "EVERYBODY KNOWS BUT NO ONE UNDERSTANDS" for DEAN DILLON.
STEVE OLIVER is mighty proud of the song writing company he keeps, as would anyone who has reached the top of the ladder in their profession, STEVE hangs out with the likes of RED LANE, "TILL I GET IT RIGHT" recorded by TAMMY WYNETTE, with over THREE HUNDRED MAJOR CUTS, MAX D BARNES, "CHISELED IN STONE", recorded by VERN GOSDIN, HARLAN SANDERS, "IF DRINKING DON'T KILL ME" recorded by GEORGE JONES and STEVE'S FORMER BEST FRIEND, THE LATE, MAC VICORY, And "THE FIREMAN" recorded by GEORGE STRAIT.
Recently,we found STEVE in the recording studio in Nashville working on his new album, scheduled for release in the spring of 2006 , and we asked, "STEVE, how do you want to be remembered," his reply was, "JUST DOWN TO EARTH."
